Mutton kuzhambu recipe a must for all non-veg lovers especially for Diwali.Idli mutton kuzhambu is a must in many household for Diwali breakfast.I had many requests to post mutton kuzhambu recipe and here it its finally for Diwali.

This mutton kuzhambu tastes best with idli,rice,chapathi etc.This is ammas version of mutton kuzhambu which she makes it often and we all love it so much.

And this marks my first non-veg video 🙂

Mutton Kuzhambu Recipe

Mutton Kuzhambu Recipe a south indian gravy pairs up well for idli,dosa,rice and chapathi etc.

  • 1 kg mutton
  • 5 nos garlic halved
  • 1/4 cup small onion (sliced)
  • 2 small tomatoes (roughly chopped)
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves for garnish
  • rock salt
  • water as needed

To temper:

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 small bayleaf
  • 1/2 inch cinnamon
  • 1 clove
  • few nos curry leaves

To grind:

  • 3/4 cup coconut
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1/2 tsp poppy seeds
  • water as needed

Spice powders:

  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp red chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp coriander powder
  1. To a mixer jar add all the ingredients listed under ‘to grind’ to a coarse paste.Set aside.
  2. To a pressure cooker heat  oil – add the items listed under ‘to temper’ add garlic,onion along with salt.Saute till onions become transparent.Add tomatoes saute well.
  3. Cook covered for 2-3 mins until it becomes mushy.Then add turmeric powder,red chilli powder and coriander powder.Saute for 2 mins.
  4. Then add cleaned mutton, saute for 2mins.Then add water till immersing level(little above).Pressure cook for 8 whistles in medium high.
  5. Let pressure release by itself.Open and check if mutton is cooked then add coconut paste.Rinse the mixie and add the water too.Mix well and boil until oil seperates. It will take atleast 10 mins in low flame.
  6. Add tamarind water and let it boil for a minute then add coriander leaves,mix well and switch off.
  7. Serve hot with idli,rice,chapathi etc.
  • You can 1 tsp garam madsala powder if you love more masala flavour in your curry.
  • Thin the gravy according to your preference.
  • You can reduce to 1/2 cup coconut if you prefer a slightly thin curry.

How to make mutton kuzhambu:
