Teh Tarik is Malaysian originated milk tea, usually pulled between two cups to get a frothy top. Quick video step by step photos recipe.
[feast_advanced_jump_to]Let me honest by admitting I had Teh tarik only once here in Singapore. Never dare to try anything new that easily. But for a tea, I know I am bad, I could have tried long back. Yet after these many years, still I had only once. Always judged how it would taste and how it is different from Indian tea. But if you are like me, trust me, it’s really worth a try and it tastes so delicious and different. Adapted from here.
You may also get addicted to it if you are like me, sweet tooth. Don’t say I did not warn you. Because of condensed milk, the sweetness is just perfect for my taste. Never thought I will like it cold with ice, but I just loved it. Especially after all the video shooting & clicking pictures for the post. It was so comforting, as it is summer here already! So here’s my version of Teh tarik recipe that can be easily prepared at home. You can skip the evaporated milk if you want and add extra condensed milk as desired.
What is Teh tarik?
Teh means Tea and Tarik means pulled. So it literally means Pulled tea. It is famous in Malaysia and Singapore. Especially in food courts, people just visit and have their morning dose rather making at home.
Also best combo with Roti Canai (Parotta) and curry with this tea by side makes it a complete meal.
Summary
Brew tea with tea dust by steeping it in hot water for 5 mins or as suggested in the pack. Use the brewed tea to prepare with condensed milk as needed. Some add a little evaporated milk for smoother finish. Also a very small pinch of salt to spike the flat taste. Simple right?
Ingredients
For tea dust, I used and suggest Lipton yellow label or any Ceylon tea (Loose tea powder)
Serving Suggestions
Teh tarik can be had hot or cold. It’s very common scene to see people get take away in plastic bags in Singapore with ice as well as the hot tea.
To serve iced version, as you keep pulling the tea between two cups, it gets cold. So pour over ice cubes filled half way though the serving cup, mix and enjoy!

My notes
For brewing tea, I would suggest a teapot/ vessel that would retain heat for long. This will ensure the tea remains hot until you have.
Also use heated glass cups for pulling as well as serving. I usually fill the serving glass with hot water until I serve the tea in it. This also helps the temperature of tea remaining optimum when you choose to have it hot. Please re-use (recycle) the water for other purposes without wasting🌏♻
