Simple syrup is best to use in cold drinks like iced tea, iced coffee and mocktails. Just water and sugar as basic ingredients to make at home.
[feast_advanced_jump_to]For those who know what is simple syrup already, this post might be surprising. But if I rewind few years, I remember when I first read a recipe that called for it, I did not had a clue what it is. Even when I shared my last post, I had few queries asking what is it.
🍸What is Simple syrup
Simple syrup is just sugar syrup with no specific consistency to be precise. Equal amount of sugar and water, heat just to dissolve the sugar.
So as the name indicates, no complicated steps involving checking the consistency.
🥃Uses
For me it is very handy for cold drinks. Ever felt frustrated to see sugar not dissolving when you add it to cold drinks like lemonade, cold coffee or any iced drinks? I love it to use it for lemon soda, lemonade as it’s just breeze. Any mocktails, you can instantly use it. Hope many of you have seen this in coffee shops.
📖Variations
There is also the Rich syrup, where the ratio of sugar is twice that of water. This is thin, while rich syrup is thicker. Best to use where you need not want to make the consistency thin.
Keeping this as base, we can make flavored syrups just by adding the flavor you want. For example, add appropriate food color and flavor as in my homemade rose syrup. We can use natural food colors and natural flavors so that we know what went in.
