Chilli Lobster Recipe with Step by Step Pictures. Lobster Chilli inspired by indo-chinese delicacy chilli chicken or chilli prawns. This lobster taste amazing with fried rice or noodles.

Chilli Lobster

This is my first time cooking a lobster. Hubby bought three lobsters few days back. I was very surprised and quite nervous. Because i have never cooked lobster ever. So i did few research and decided to cook it by myself.

I have tasted lobster during my andaman trip. You can check this post for a glance of my trip. We have tasted chilli lobster which is similar to indo-chinese recipe and a continental recipe lemon butter lobster. I love chilli lobster more than the other one. So decided to make that.

I used my chilli chicken recipe and substituted chicken with lobster.

This lobster tail recipe is a decadent dinner made with large lobster tails fried and then tossed with a spicy chilli sauce.

What are Lobsters?

Lobsters are a family of large marine crustaceans. Lobsters have long bodies with muscular tails, and live in crevices or burrows on the sea floor. Three of their five pairs of legs have claws, including the first pair, which are usually much larger than the others.

What is the best way to cook lobster?

Bring the water to a rolling boil, and put in lobsters, one at a time. Bring water to a rolling boil over high heat. Place lobsters in the pot (head first), cover tightly. Cook as per the weight of the lobster.

How long do you cook lobsters?

Since this recipe calls for deep frying the lobster. Cooking them for 5 mins in salted boiling water is enough.

Method for cooking lobster traditionally.

Allow 1 tablespoon of salt per litre of water, using at least 4 litres of water. Bring the water to a vigorous boil and then drop the lobster in head first. Cook one lobster at a time. Here is a chart for you.

How to Buy Lobster:

Always look for the freshest lobster available. If you live near the ocean then you can get lucky. Buying lobster as soon as it comes from the ocean is best. It taste best that way. Lobster can be expensive but it is a occasional thing. So invest your time and money and make most of it.

Different Ways of Cooking Lobster:

I have shared a spicy way of serving lobster. But there are many international and continental recipes for serving lobsters.

  • Baked lobster tail: Add tons of herbs, salt, pepper and olive oil or butter. Bake them in oven.
  • Poached lobster: This is more of a simmer in a layer of butter. It is also known as butter poaching. I have seen this often in masterchef shows.
  • Boiled lobster: Boil water in a large pot add good amount of salt, You may add any herbs or flavourings in the water if you want. Cook it as per mentioned time and thats it.
  • Grilled lobster: If you are having a barbeque at home, then tgrilled lobster will be a perfect menu. Will share the recipe soon.

1)You can fry the lobster once. Drain them and set aside. Then you can deep fry them again till crispy before serving and then toss in sauce.

Chilli Lobster - A spicy mouthwatering finger licking delicacy. Succulent tender lobster pieces tossed in a spicy sauce which taste absolutely amazing.

Ingredients
  • Lobster meat around 500 grams cubed
  • All Purpose Flour / Maida - ½ cup
  • Cornstarch - ½ cup
  • Salt and Black Pepper to taste
  • Water as needed
  • Oil for deep frying
FOR SAUCE:
  • Oil - 1 tblsp
  • Garlic - 1 tblsp finely chopped
  • Ginger - 1 tblsp finely chopped
  • Onion - 1 peeled and cubed
  • Capsicum / Bell Pepper - 1 (i used green and red)
  • Green Chillies - 5
  • Vinegar - 1 tblsp
  • Tomato Ketchup - 4 tblsp
  • Soy Sauce - 1 tblsp
  • Green Chilli Sauce - 2 tblspn
  • Red Chilli Sauce - 2 tblspn
  • Salt to taste
  • Red Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
  • Sugar a pinch
  • Water as needed
  • Spring Onion as needed
Instructions
  1. Mix all ingredients for batter. Dip lobster in the batter and fry till golden brown. You can double fry for more crispness. Drain and set aside.
  2. Take oil in a wok. Add in ginger, garlic, onions and capsicum, green chillies. Saute for 2 mins.
  3. Now add in all sauces, salt, sugar and spices. Mix well.
  4. Add very little water and mix well.
  5. Add in fried lobster and toss. Add spring onions and toss.
  6. Serve

3)Remove it from the water and immerse in cold water. Now twist the top portion off. Remove the tail and slit it from underneath.
