Dry Fruits Modak is a rich, delicious modak made with dry fruits and nuts filling that you can try for Ganesh Chaturthi. Dry Fruits Modak is a very good alternate special modak and is relished by all. How to make Dry Fruits Modak is presented in this post with step by step pictures.
This Dry Fruits Modak includes a mixed nuts and dry fruits I have given 2 versions one is with dry fruits mixture stuffed inside which needs steaming and other with dry fruit and nuts mixture pressed into mould and served as such.Both versions tastes good, so go ahead making this dry fruits modak this year and enjoy!
About Dry Fruits Modak
I have given a simple recipe using just dry fruits and nuts alone, but you can make a richer version by adding khoya/mawa too.I have used mould here but if you don’t have mould then you can check here for easy modak without mould check this post.Check out other Ganesh chaturthi recipes posted already.

Dry Fruits Modak Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 2 tsp ghee plus for greasing
Nuts : 1/2 cup in total
- 15 nos badams
- 10 nos pistachious
- 10 nos cashews
For the outer dough :
- 1/2 cup homemade rice flour / idiyappam flour
- salt to taste
- water as needed
Instructions

Dry roast the nuts until golden, cool down and transfer to a mixer jar. Grind it to a slightly coarse mixture.

Set aside. Now add dates to the mixer jar. Add little water.

Blend to form a paste consistency. Add dates paste and nuts mixture to a mixing bowl. Mix well, add ghee mix it and set aside. The mixture shouldn't stick much.

Add salt to rice flour, mix it. Boil water until it bubbles up add it to rice flour.

Mix with a ladle, once it starts to come together, Set aside for few mins until it is warm enough to handle with hand. Now bring everything together to form a smooth dough without any cracks.

Now the outer dough and stuffing is ready. Grease the mould well with ghee. Pinch a lemon sized dough and roll into a ball. Now close the mould and take a dough shape it as a ball and stuff it from the bottom side. Nicely press it along the sides in the inner part, leaving a center hole for the stuffing.

Now slightly roll the dry fruits mixture to a small cylinder. Stuff it inside. Then seal it with little dough as shown.

Open the mould and carefully remove it. Likewise shape all the modaks with stuffing. Steam cook for 10mins or until the modak looks shiny on the outside and does not stick.

Switch off and remove the modak and transfer to plate / serving bowl. Alternatively you can just use the mixture to press into modak moulds and serve too. Enjoy Dry Fruits Modak!
Notes
- If you prepare the dough before hand, make sure to keep covered with a wet cloth to avoid drying up.
- You can use either homemade rice flour / storebought.I used store bought rice flour, brand name is Nirapara.
- If you don’t have a mould make just balls or If you don’t have a mould make just balls or modak shapes.You can even make semi circle shape like here.
- For a more richer version you can add dessicated coconut and khoya each 2 tbsp.

- Now slightly roll the dry fruits mixture to a small cylinder.Stuff it inside.Then seal it with little dough as shown.
- Open the mould and carefully remove it.Likewise shape all the kozhukatais with stuffing.Steam cook for 10mins or until the kozhukattai looks shiny on the outside and does not stick.Switch off and remove the kozhukattais and transfer to plate / serving bowl.
- Alternatively you can just use the mixture to press into modak moulds and serve too.
Serve warm.
