Whole masoor dal sundal recipe a healthy sundal made with red lentils.
Whole masoor dal sundal recipe with step by step pictures and video. As navaratri week is nearing thought to post this healthy and wholesome sundal recipe to start off with.
This red lentil needs no soaking so best even to make sundal at the last minute.I love all sundal varieties so buy different types of legumes and lentils each time to experiment. So this time when I saw this pack of red lentils with skin picked it up immediately without any second thoughts. This is nothing but the masoor dal (the orange variety) with skin which we use for making dal. This is more nutritious as its with skin, you can include it by making dal or sundal like this.
Every year for navaratri, I give a glance at the legumes/lentils section in the grocery store to check if I have missed any legume/lentil for making sundal and this year this whole masoor dal caught my eye 🙂 As I’ve limited my outings for even buying grocery is limited, I write down a list of to buy things as and when I remember. These days,I tend to forget things easily so this list realy helps…blame it on ageing haha 😀
Do try this healthy sundal and enjoy it as a snack or for breakfast.

To a pan - heat oil add the items listed under 'to temper' let it splutter. Then add dal give a good toss.Saute until moisture leaves.I did not have much water after cooking dal so added as such.If you have more water strain a bit then add.

Notes
- After cooking masoor dal if there is more water then strain and add it.If there is just little water , add as such and let it dry up while sauteing.
- You can make sweet version by adding 2 tbsp cane sugar after tempering. You can also use 1/4 cup jaggery syrup.
- Instead of cooking in open pot you can even pressure cook it for 2-3 whistles but be careful not to mush it up.You need the whole lentils and not mushy.
