Kambu kara pidi kozhukattai recipe with stepwise pictures.I had a batch of bajra flour so tried both sweet and this kara kozhukattai.Pearl millet is an excellent source of protein and fiber.
I am a big fan of kozhukattai recipes and this one adds on to our menu too.
Kambu kara pidi kozhukattai recipe
- 1/2 cup bajra flour
- 1 tbsp coconut bits
- salt to taste
- 1 cup water
To temper:
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/4 tsp split urad dal
- 1 small red chilli
- few nos curry leaves (chopped finely)
- a pinch hing
- Heat oil – add the items listed under ‘to temper’.Let it splutter.
- Then add coconut pieces,saute for a minute.Add required salt and water.
- Once water starts to boil add the bajra flour.
- Keep mixing while you add to avoid lumps.Keep cooking until it forms a dough.Transfer to a plate,grease hand with oil and mix well once.
- Shape them as kozhukattais.Prepare the steamer and arrange the kozhukattais.Steam cook for 10 mins in low medium flame.
Once water starts to boil, simmer then add bajra flour.Keep mixing to avoid lumps.

Serve hot!
Serve hot with chutney of your choice! We had it with red chilli coconut chutney.
