About Wheat Rava Upma
Wheat Rava Upma is a popular variation of the traditional rava upma but a healthier version. It is most recommended dish for all ages. Upma is a traditional indian dish made with semolina or sooji or rava, and this rava upma is a healthy variation that incorporates coarse wheat semolina instead.
This Upma is a popular choice for breakfast in many households and is loved for its simplicity and flavors. I like both wheat and white rava recipes….My favourite combo being with sugar or coconut chutney or with sambar…yumm combo!
Mittu loves upma with rasam and attimes with curd too. Do you have any interesting combination to share? Amma makes it in pressure cooker but I always prefer to make it in open pot.

Wheat Rava Upma Ingredients
- Rava / Sooji / Semolina: I have used store bought rava (hard wheat / semolina) for this recipe. It is unroasted variety so I always roast it for few seconds along with vegetables before cooking.
- Spices & Basic Veggies : Upma recipe needs a simple tempering with mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, curry leaves and chilli etc. I added carrots and peas to make it wholesome and colorful too.
- Ghee / Oil : Use ghee when available as ghee takes upma to a different level of taste. I use regular cooking oil (groundnut oil) alternatively you can use coconut oil too.
